Google and Twitter team up for Egypt’s people Speak2Tweet

You can’t keep them down. Egypt’s government blocked Twitter in hopes of squashing the protests. Then they blocked Facebook and Google, Blackberry, SMS services, and the rest of the Internet. With the Internet and mobile service down getting information from Egypt has been tough if not impossible at times.

Over the weekend, Google and Twitter teamed up to create a new service called Speak2Tweet specifically for Egyptians. Now users can use traditional communications services to get their voice out over social media. User are able to dial any of three international phone numbers (+16504194196, +390662207294, or +97316199855) from a land line and leave a message. That message is immediately sent to the Twitter Speak2Tweet with the hashtag #egypt.
